Mountain Lion leaps from Cupertino’s servers

Apple Mac users this morning will be enjoying another foray into the wilderness thanks to the Cupertino company’s Mountain Lion OS X update. The app is available now through the Mac App store for $20.99, and introduces over 200 new features to the Mac operating system.

Key among those features is the introduction of a dedicated iMessage app, which syncs messages across iOS devices as well; a new Notification Centre, which works exactly like the iOS version; system-wide Facebook integration for sharing pretty much everything through Facebook with a click; dictation support, which lets you type by talking at your Mac; improved iCloud support and AirPlay mirroring to let you play pretty much anything through an AirPlay device.

“People are going to love the new features in Mountain Lion and how easy it is to download and install from the Mac App Store,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing in a statement. “With iCloud integration, Mountain Lion is even easier to set up, and your important information stays up to date across all your devices so you can keep editing documents, taking notes, creating reminders, and continue conversations whether you started on a Mac, iPhone or iPad.”

The update is 4.05GB, so don’t try and download it while tethered to your smartphone…
